Hermann and Birgit Eckwert opened the doors of Klein Windhoek Schlachterei on 8 April 1988. It all started with a small retail shop with 5 employees on 314 Gobabis Weg (now Sam Nujoma Drive) in Klein Windhoek.
With Hermann Eckwert as a German Master Butcher, the business specialised in supplying German specialities like, Sülze, Salami, Leberwurst, Wiener Würstchen and many more. The shop was famous for its warm Fleischkäse (Meatloaf) which you could collect on Thursdays for lunch or fresh Weisswurst on a Friday. The Biltong and Droëwors is one of the favourites in Windhoek.
Over the years the business expanded into a wholesale and retail shop which supplied fresh meat and processed meats and sausages to catering companies, restaurants and shops.
In 1995 Klein Windhoek Schlachterei expanded and opened a wholesale in 13 Albert Wessel Street in the Northern Industrial Area. Here the business is operating today with over 40 employees and the sons Wolfgang and Claus Eckwert are part of the team (management). The business supplies a number of large catering firms with tenders but the restaurants and shops are still important to us!
